What We Do
- WHERE WE WORK
Welcome Message from Carol Jenkins
For more than 85 years, World Learning has equipped individuals and institutions to address the world’s most pressing problems. We believe that, working together with our partners, we can change this world for the better.
On my travels, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of those who have joined us in this mission. In Baghdad, we’ve trained more than 2,300 Iraqi youth who are already giving back at home. In London, our partners in the TAAP Initiative strongly believe that we are all responsible to practice inclusion. And in Vermont, our Experiment in International Living and School for International Training participants prove every day that they have the tools and the determination to change the world.
Please join us in our pursuit of a more peaceful and just world.
- Get Involved
Due to continued public health and safety impacts of COVID-19, World Learning and our partners at the U.S. Department of State, ECA have decided that most Youth Ambassadors Programs will continue virtually through December 31, 2021, and we are currently reviewing the 2022 program portfolio to confirm how programs will be offered. Given the changing nature of the pandemic, programs may need to pivot to hybrid (in-country) or virtual exchanges, and impacted programs, with open or upcoming applications, have been noted on the apply now page.
2020 and 2021 Virtual Youth Ambassadors Program participants are eligible to reapply to the Youth Ambassadors Program in the future to experience the traditional three-week exchange program if all eligibility requirements are still met.
Program application deadlines vary by country.
The Youth Ambassadors Program is seeking qualified applicants for the following programs for our 2021 cycle. Please click the “See Open Programs and Apply” button in the right corner to access the application platform.
You will find brief descriptions of the possible program offerings below:
Travel Program: A U.S. Youth Ambassadors travel program is a traditional international exchange abroad. Ten to Twenty-day, single, and multi-country exchanges take place between June-August; exact dates will vary by exchange country and include a U.S.-based pre-departure orientation. Through a travel program, Youth Ambassadors will engage in experiential learning activities; leadership trainings; civic participation at the community level; mentoring by community, business, and NGO leaders; intercultural learning components and volunteering. Possible Travel Program countries include Argentina & Chile, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Hybrid Program: A hybrid U.S. Youth Ambassadors Program is a domestic travel program in the U.S. The program contains both virtual and domestic travel components including synchronous and asynchronous activities, experiential learning activities, leadership trainings, civic participation at the community level, and an intercultural learning component. Possible Hybrid Program locations include Washington, DC; Colorado; and Vermont.
Virtual Program: A virtual U.S. Youth Ambassadors Program takes place fully online. Youth Ambassadors participants connect virtually for synchronous and asynchronous online activities over the course of four to eight weeks. Virtual programming includes full group workshops based on program themes, social hours hosted by Youth Ambassadors Program Alumni, and small discussion groups. The time commitment for virtual Youth Ambassadors is between 6-12 hours per week with synchronous meetings and independent work online. A computer, laptop, or tablet, and internet access are required for the duration of the virtual program.
The Youth Ambassadors Program encourages all qualified individuals to apply, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status.
