Transformational Leadership Scholarships and Partnerships Program

Country: Kosovo    |   Duration: February 2014 to February 2019    |   Funder: USAID    |   Contact:  Matt.Brown@worldlearning.org

Program Description

The five-year Transformational Leadership Program: Scholarships and Partnerships aims to help train a new generation of Kosovar leaders to drive significant change in economic, political, and social priority areas.

I want every young person in Kosovo to know that, if there is a will, there is a way, and things can be changed for the better.

2015 Transformational Leadership Program Participant

The program provides scholarships for Kosovars to pursue 185 master's degrees and 160 professional certificates at U.S. universities. When alumni return to Kosovo they are placed in key institutions, especially in the public sector, where they can utilize their new knowledge and skills to influence change from within. In addition, World Learning and its partners build the capacity of the University of Prishtina to prepare graduates to meet the needs of the growing economy and developing state. This ensures that the leadership training process is both domestic and sustainable.

Program Goals

The overarching program goal is to develop a cadre of leaders to drive significant change in Kosovo's priority economic, political, and social areas. In addition, the Project aims to develop the capacity of Kosovars to bring about transformational change through opportunities for advanced education, leadership development, and technical assistance.

To accomplish these important goals, TLP-SP focuses on the following activities:

  • The creation of an Advisory Committee that will oversee the entire Transformational Leadership Program, including the creation and management of a Secretariat for that Committee;

  • The placement and monitoring of 185 scholarship participants in U.S. Master’s degree programs, and 100+ participants in Professional Certificate programs;

  • The creation of university partnerships and exchanges that will support collaboration between U.S. universities and the University of Prishtina and other higher education institutions in Kosovo.
