Program Description

The Electoral Empowerment of Civil Society Project (EECSP) strengthens the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) to become integral parts of election activities in Nigeria.

EECSP is led by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), in partnership with World Learning, Search for Common Ground (SFCG), and the Center for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana). The project focuses on improved management and expanded domestic electoral observation and participation for CSOs. In addition, EECSP works with marginalized groups such as women, youth, people with disabilities, and non-indigenous populations to expand their participation in elections leading to improved public confidence in elections and their outcomes. World Learning’s role includes strengthening the capacity of Nigerian partner CSOs to effectively carry out targeted advocacy efforts.

Program Goals

  • Build civil society organizations’ ability to engage in election activities in Nigeria.
  • Improve domestic electoral observation and participation for civil society organizations.
  • Expand the participation of individuals from marginalized groups in elections.
