World Learning won a $1.5 million award to train teachers to teach English as a foreign language in Central Asia. The program will launch this fall and run through 2026.

Funded by the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the program C5 + O.N.E. Ed aims to create a cohort of highly qualified English language teachers in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

“The program offers a unique professional development opportunity for early-career English teachers from Central Asia,” said World Learning’s Director of TESOL Education German Gomez. “World Learning has decades of expertise in developing English language program curriculums, tailored teacher trainings, and robust professional network opportunities.”

The program curriculum, delivered by 20 World Learning and Georgetown University teacher trainers, will focus on enhancing teaching skills and English proficiency through a combination of an online course, mentoring sessions, and a one-month in-person workshop in Kazakhstan.

“Participants will gain expertise in communicative language teaching, student-centered methods, technology integration, and more,” said Gomez. “Our intent is for participants to return to their countries and communities and cascade their knowledge and skills.”

An estimated 200 participants are expected to enroll in the program, which also aims to create a strong professional network of English language educators in the C5 region.

C5 + O.N.E. Ed is in partnership with the Kazakhstan Teachers of English Association. To learn more about the program, visit World Learning’s website.
