World Learning Names Sakil Malik Vice President of Global Education

WASHINGTON (February 22, 2017)

World Learning is pleased to welcome Sakil Malik as the new vice president of Global Education. He will join the organization in March and brings more than 20 years of experience in international education and project management. This marks Malik’s return to World Learning as he previously served as democracy and governance program manager from 2002-2003.

“We are delighted Sakil is returning to World Learning,” said Carol Jenkins, president of World Learning’s Global Development and Exchange programs. “His expertise in international education will help us strengthen and expand our education development portfolio.”

Malik most recently served as director for the USAID-funded Reading within Reach (REACH) Project and Global Reading Network (GRN), which worked to improve the literacy of primary school children around the world. He has also served as a project director for Creative Associates International, managing literacy programs in Tanzania, Tajikistan, East Timor, Cambodia and India, in addition to Arabic programs throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

His career also includes time as director of Global Operations at the International Reading Association, program coordinator for the Child Welfare League of America, and technical officer for CARE’s office in Bangladesh.

Malik earned an M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in economics from Aligarh University in India. He received a B.A. in commerce from Dhaka University in Bangladesh. He is also a certified project manager with CIPM, CMMP and MPM certifications.
