World Learning announced that John Lucas will step down as provost of the School for International Training (SIT) at the end of the year to become the next president and CEO of International Student Exchange Program, in Virginia.

“John’s departure is a major loss for World Learning and for the School for International Training,” said Donald Steinberg, World Learning president and CEO. “He leaves SIT in a very strong position as a leader in the fields of study abroad and international graduate education. I have full confidence in the SIT senior leadership team under the direction of Vice Provost Priscilla Stone as we move forward.”

During his four-year tenure, Lucas expanded the SIT Study Abroad portfolio, fully incorporating the International Honors Program and leading the institution into new academic fields including finance and social responsibility, food security and climate change. He spearheaded the successful reaccreditation of the School for International Training and drove the redesign of the Experiment programs. This work culminated in the development of a new three-year strategic plan for SIT that provides a roadmap for SIT’s continued role as an innovator in higher education.

World Learning will initiate the search process for its next provost immediately to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
