For more than 85 years, World Learning has equipped individuals and institutions to address the world’s most pressing problems. We believe that, working together with our partners, we can change this world for the better.
On my travels, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of those who have joined us in this mission. In Baghdad, we’ve trained more than 2,300 Iraqi youth who are already giving back at home. In London, our partners in the TAAP Initiative strongly believe that we are all responsible to practice inclusion. And in Vermont, our Experiment in International Living and School for International Training participants prove every day that they have the tools and the determination to change the world.

- Field Director, World Learning Algeria
Andrew Farrand is field director of World Learning’s office in Algeria, managing day-to-day operations of in-country education, employment, and exchange programs that help prepare young Algerians for success in the modern economy. His work includes a particular focus on aligning World Learning’s employability and vocational training offerings with the needs of Algerian employers; capacity development of staff and local partners; and organizational development, including effective use of information technologies. Farrand joined World Learning in 2015 after seven years at the National Democratic Institute, including two years advising Algerian political parties on integrating public opinion research into policy-making and training young civic leaders in political organizing and communication techniques. He also previously worked on a major literacy project in Morocco funded by the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation, and has consulted for Oxford Business Group, Westminster Foundation for Democracy, and Search for Common Ground. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. A firm believer in the power of intercultural exchange to transform young lives, Farrand credits a high school exchange program to France for sparking his passion for international education. Farrand is proficient in French, Algerian colloquial Arabic, and Modern Standard Arabic.
