Meeting quarterly, the Board participates in the leadership, planning,
design and evaluation of STAR Network activities, including regional
expertise exchanges, technical assistance and training in political
skill-building, enterprise development, media and public policy
advocacy. The Board also guides STAR Network country staff in developing
and implementing country-specific programs.
The Board has inspired important new initiatives for women such
as legislation to support women's entrepreneurship in Croatia; increased
participation by women in regional multi-lateral micro-finance structures
and training centers; and the training of Macedonian women's NGOs
in multi-ethnic alliance building. The Board also initiated and
designed the STAR Network
Regional Conference in Porec, Croatia, June 29-July 2, 2000,
for sixty women from the region. This groundbreaking conference
led to adoption of the Porec
Platform of Action.
