Oman: Political Culture and Development

Explore social and economic development, regional politics, political reform, and religious traditions in Muscat, a meeting point of Arab, Asian, and African cultures, traditions, and languages. Oman’s domestic and international policies are uniquely pragmatic and independent for the region, while at the same time it is one of the more traditional Gulf States.
Cross-cultural fieldwork, intensive Arabic language training, and homestays in Muscat and in the interior region help students understand and appreciate the phenomenal social evolution that has occurred in the Sultanate in the past 35 years following the 1970 rise to power of Sultan Qaboos. Today, Oman is a regional model. With its tolerance toward differences and adherence to nonalignment, Oman has also emerged as a center of political and economic stability in the Arab world.
"We should be fearless when communicating with different civilizations and cultures, and in exploring the accomplishments and developments in those communities."
- His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman
