Ghana: Arts and Culture

Meet and interact with artists, artisans, dancers, and musicians to explore Ghana’s rich history and strong sense of identity. Ghana is well known for its fusion of the traditional and contemporary in many aspects of daily life. The arts, which are central to Ghanaian culture, are no exception. Items such as colorful woven kente cloth and carved wooden stools take on ceremonial importance as they portray the history and traditions of a nation.
Students have opportunities to work directly with potters, goldsmiths, beadmakers, bronze casters, drummers, and other artisans and performing artists. Homestays in a rural Ashanti village and in the capital of Accra provide an introduction to both cosmopolitan city and rural village life and architecture.
