Digital Young Leaders Exchange Program

Digital Young Leaders Exchange Program

Countries: Iraq, United States
Duration: March 2016 to December 2017
Funder: U.S. Department of State

Program Description

The Digital Young Leaders Exchange Program (DYLEP) is a four-month long virtual exchange program that connects 325 students from Iraq and the United States. During the program, students use videos, discussion forums, webinars, online chats, and games, to develop their understanding of leadership, global issues, and civic engagement. To promote mutual understanding between Iraq and the United States, students also meet online in small groups and exchange ideas and perceptions towards pertinent issues around the world, including climate change, gender discrimination, and poverty. After the program, students apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired by planning and carrying out service projects online or in their home communities.

DYLEP is sponsored by the J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative, U.S. Department of State, and the Bezos Family Foundation.

I am so happy to be part of DYLEP - it is a unique experience to learn about other people and many things without meeting them in person. - DYLEP 2016 Participant

“So far, I have learned that this program...aims at connecting different countries and cultures virtually, to show the new generation that we are all very similar and that we can get along without dispute and war constantly in the backgrounds of our lives; which is a great message to get across.” - DYLEP 2016 Participant
