World Learning Awarded MacArthur Foundation Grant

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (December 5, 2014) – World Learning has been awarded a three-year, $200,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to provide opportunities for young men of color living in Chicago to spend a summer abroad with The Experiment in International Living’s new Leadership Institute. The Experiment is the founding program of World Learning, a nonprofit organization advancing leadership in more than 60 countries through education, exchange, and development programs.

Dayton, Ph.D., as the new executive director of the Conflict Transformation Across Cultures (CONTACT) Program. Dayton has more than twenty years of experience in peacebuilding and conflict transformation and comes to SIT from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University where he is a faculty member.

USAID and World Learning Launch Basic Education Program in Lebanon

WASHINGTON (November 21, 2014) – U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale and Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education Elias Bou Saab announced the launch of the $41.2 million Improved Basic Education Services Program (IBESP) in Lebanon. IBESP, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will fortify Lebanon’s public school system and ensure long-term academic success for students by strengthening classroom instruction, community engagement, education management, facilities, and services. World Learning will implement IBESP in partnership with Management Systems International, Ana Aqra’, and AMIDEAST.

World Learning Partner Wins Nobel Peace Prize: Kailash Satyarthi worked with Child Labor: Education and Action Project

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (October 13, 2014) – World Learning is proud to congratulate Indian child labor activist Kailash Satyarthi, who has partnered with SIT Graduate Institute’s Child Labor: Education and Action (CLEA) project, for winning this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. On Friday, The Nobel Committee announced Satyarthi’s joint award with Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.”
