"One of the best decisions I’ve ever made."
SIT appealed to me in part because the SIT graduates I knew were such wonderful, caring people. I was impressed with their global awareness, humanistic approach to teaching, and progressive, cutting-edge classroom skills. And the SIT faculty I’d met at conferences were amazing presenters and impressive authors - many of the books on my shelves were written by them.
SIT was completely different from my previous educational experiences. I actually went to class and enjoyed it. What’s more, I looked forward to doing the reading, to writing papers, and doing the homework. Assignments were useful and meaningful because I could incorporate them into my job - through working with my own students, presenting at teachers' conferences, and delivering in-service trainings.
The two-summer MAT program provided practical, usable, easily transferable information in an involved and engaging setting. Theory was quickly and cleverly translated into practice. At SIT, you experience new approaches by trying them out with classmates. The feedback I got from my peers was a welcome affi rmation that I was indeed reaching them - as was hearing my teacher say, "I’d love to be one of your students!" The effect SIT has had on me as a person and as a professional is staggering.
