French in US Public Schools
Study Abroad
French is spoken in many countries in the world. To expand your understanding and expertise in both French language and culture, you will participate in a two-month study abroad experience in a French-speaking culture that you know little about (Senegal in 2006-2007). You will carry out independent studies in language and culture through a family homestay, a community service project, and other local activities while being monitored by faculty through online communication.
Taking advantage of SIT's worldwide Study Abroad facilities, you will arrive in and be oriented to your site with a group of SIT Study Abroad students. You will then break off from that group to undertake your own independent learning, which will be based on your experience with your homestay family and in your service learning work. Service learning could take place in any setting, from a school, bakery, or vineyard to an NGO office. See a list of courses on the Coursework page.
