English as a Second Language in US Public Schools
Teaching Internship
After completing their two semesters of coursework, students pursuing an ESL degree with certification must complete teaching internships in US public schools. At minimum, students must complete 80 hours of teaching over a 12-week period. In addition, students are asked to assess and reflect upon their personal and intellectual growth during their internships. Based on this process of reflective analysis, each student produces a Certification Portfolio.
Selected by the MAT program, the internships are located in New England and the state of New York. All internships occur under the supervision of MAT faculty members.
