Master of Arts in Conflict Transformation
Reflective Practice Phase (RPP)
Following successful completion of coursework, students engage in at least six months of field practice relevant to their professional goals. With the assistance of SIT’s Career Services Center, students design and negotiate a placement for their field practice, which often takes the form of a full-time professional position. Although the RPP takes place off campus, students remain in contact with faculty advisors and a cohort of peers involved in similar work around the globe.
During the RPP, students apply knowledge and skills acquired on campus while exploring their practice in a real-world setting.
In order to solidify the experience, each student documents their learning in a portfolio that includes a major Capstone Paper. The Portfolio and Capstone Paper provides students with the opportunity to analyze the accomplishment of learning objectives, demonstrate field-based competencies, and reassess theoretical knowledge in light of professional application. Researching and writing the Capstone Paper takes students deeply into the experiential learning cycle, where they explore the meaning of their practicum experiences, integrate theory and practice in written and oral presentations, and make a contribution to intercultural fields.
After the conclusion of the RPP, all students attend a Capstone Seminar back on the SIT campus, during which they formally present their learning from their RPP.
