FORECAST Exchange students and alumni at the completion of their pre-departure orientation in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia

In Serbia, World Learning implements three Capacity Building projects under the FORECAST contract for USAID:  Participant Training, Community Connections, and the FORECAST Exchange Program.

  • Participant Training provides assistance to USAID and USAID implementers in the processing and recording participants in US-based, Third Country, and In-Country training programs. Since 2006, we have assisted in the processing of 199 trainings for a total of 4415 participants.
  • The FORECAST Exchange Program sends eligible Serbian and Montenegrin undergraduates to US universities for one year of non-degree study.  Since 2007, over 100 students have attended more than 20 different US universities.  In addition to academics, students are involved in campus life, perform community service, and participate in internships.
  • The Community Connections program began in Serbia in 2008 sending a total of 58 Serbian professionals for 3-week programs in the following six themes: village and rural tourism, youth and sports, youth and employment, agricultural coops and associations, marketing, and municipal economic development.  These homestay-based programs focused on professional development and cultural exchange in 6 different American host communities. Sixty more professionals will participate in 2009-2010 with 6 new themes:  waste management and recycling, conflict of interest laws, corporate social responsibility, establishing internships, women’s health, and patient support and hospice care.
