Mexico: Mayan Arts and Culture
Orientation in Mexico City
Your adventure begins in historic Mexico City. Learn about Mexico’s people and its dramatic past at the Zocalo as you visit the stunning cathedral and Palacio Nacional and gaze upon the evocative murals by Diego Rivera. Develop your Spanish language skills as you visit the Museum of Anthropology or sample authentic Mexican cuisine.
Homestay, Mayan Culture, and Travel

Become part of the friendly, easygoing life of your Mexican family and community while learning about the historic and contemporary impact of Mayan culture on Mexican society. Take part in Jarana dance classes, visit local markets and cook traditional food. Wear a typical guayabera and learn what it feels like to sleep in a hammock like the locals! After the homestay, travel the stunning Maya and Puuc routes visiting impressive archaeological sites like Labná, Kabah, Uxmal, and Chichen Itzá. Your Mayan adventure concludes with a few days relaxing on long golden beaches, swimming in the breathtaking, turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean, and exploring coastal villages on Isla Mujeres.
Sample activities: Enjoy an evening stroll with your Mexican family along the famous colonial Paseo Montejo; listen to rhythmic marimba music; relax at street-side cafés while sampling tasty regional cuisine and exotic flavors of ice cream; visit archaeological sites; climb the steep stone steps of Chichen Itzá.
