Mexico: Sustainable Development and Fair Trade
Orientation in Mexico City
Your adventure begins in historic Mexico City. Learn about Mexico’s people and its dramatic past at the Zocalo as you visit the stunning cathedral and Palacio Nacional and gaze upon the evocative murals by Diego Rivera. Develop your Spanish language skills as you visit the Museum of Anthropology or sample authentic Mexican cuisine.
Homestay, Sustainable Development and Fair Trade

Experience life in a rural Mexican coffee community learning about sustainable development and fair trade. This rustic adventure will allow you to feel the financial, social, and cultural impact of fair trade in a thriving coffee region. While you may be challenged by the rugged physical conditions in the village, you will be moved by the stunning beauty of your surroundings and taken in by the warmth of this vibrant community. During your homestay experience, work side by side with local people learning how coffee is grown and harvested as well as the basic differences of coffee blends and quality. After the homestay, gain a deeper understanding of how coffee is processed and experience what it’s like to be a barista. Spend your final days in Mexico relaxing at a coastal community in the State of Oaxaca--famous for its natural beauty, turtle breeding farms, and surfers.
Sample activities: Visit ancient haciendas; enjoy a day of river rafting; sample the freshest coffee you have ever tasted; learn more about fair trade practices; spend an afternoon hiking Snake Hill; dance the traditional Son Jarocho.
