Spend three weeks immersed in Japanese language and culture. As a beginning, intermediate, or advanced student, you take Japanese language classes and engage in hands-on cultural activities. As a member of a Japanese family, your language skills improve quickly as you embrace daily life. Excursions with your group and host family give you a broader sense of Japanese youth culture and traditions. At the end of your homestay, your group gives a sayonara party to thank the host families and community. Your experience concludes with a few days in ancient Kyoto and a final overnight in Tokyo.

Sample activities: Stroll through traditional Japanese gardens; visit an animation studio; dance, sing, and celebrate with local people at summer festivals; practice Zen meditation; perfect the art of Japanese flower arrangement; participate in a traditional tea festival; swim in the Sea of Japan; watch sumo wrestling or a Japanese baseball game; practice your kanji while you learn the intricacies of Japanese calligraphy; visit a Japanese high school; learn the art of ai indigo-dying; immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the Ainu people of Hokkaido.
