Windows on America for Germany
| Location: United States Duration: 2008-2010 Funder: US Embassy Germany Contact: Cari.Graves@worldlearning.org |
World Learning works with the US Embassy in Germany to design, administer, and implement the Windows on America (WoA) program. WoA provides a visit to the US for German minority students, many of whom would not otherwise have an opportunity to participate on traditional exchange programs between Germany and the US.
The goal of WoA is to promote understanding, encourage lasting relationships, and address misperceptions about the US among the next generation of German youth.
Each year, five groups of approximately ten students and two adults travel to the United States for ten days. While the in the U.S., they are able to visit Washington, DC, New York City, and other smaller communities. The program exposes students to all aspects of American culture, school, and life by arranging visits to American museums and monuments and tours of American high schools. The students also spend time living with American families. Students meet with representatives of different American institutions including local government, school administration, religious institutions, and community groups.
