SIT Study Abroad Academic Director Leads the Way on Sustainability for Education Abroad
BRATTLEBORO, VT (April 28, 2008) -- Peter Brennan, SIT Study Abroad Academic Director in Australia’s Sustainability and the Environment program, demonstrated his commitment to sustainability in international education this month through his contribution to a report on Environmental Sustainability in Education Abroad. Also a member of the task force, Amber Garrard - a Masters degree candidate in Sustainable Development at the SIT Graduate Institute - contributed significant research to this initiative. The report, prepared by NAFSA’s Task Force on Sustainability in Education Abroad, discusses the challenges of study abroad and its impact on the environment and natural resource management, as well as the opportunities for study abroad educators to teach environmental awareness. Through a detailed analysis of various elements of the study abroad experience, the report makes sustainability recommendations for education abroad administrators and faculty.
The report was submitted by NAFSA’s Sustainability in Education Abroad task force to the Education Abroad Knowledge Community of NAFSA on April 14th. Read the complete report on Sustainability in International Education.
