Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students, 2007 and 2008

Funded by the Branch for the Study of the U.S., Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, World Learning is managing a leadership program for Iraqi undergraduate students.  The Iraqi student leaders travel to one of six universities to attend a five-week summer institute program that integrates leadership training; study of American society, institutions, and culture; and themes such as public policy, media studies or technology among others. The program also includes a community service component aimed at increasing the students’ understanding of the role of citizens and nonprofit organizations in society.  Students will attend orientation and re-entry workshops in Washington, DC.

Participants in the Study of the U.S. Institutes are among the approximately 30,000 individuals who participate in exchanges managed by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) each year.  Other ECA exchange programs include the Fulbright and the International Visitor Leadership Program.  Through a range of academic and professional exchanges, the Bureau seeks to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.
