Certificate in Peace Education in Language Teaching (CPELT)
Program Overview
The School for International Training’s Conflict Transformation Across Cultures program and Teacher Training Institute have joined this summer to create the first Certificate in Peace Education in Language Teaching (CPELT). CPELT is designed to help language teachers explore the many ways of bringing peace into their teaching. The Certificate combines the three credits of the CONTACT Summer Institute (including its Peace Education and Language Teaching course) with three additional related classes from among those offered through the Teacher Training Institute.
Program Components
The CPELT teaching certificate is completed over two summers of three weeks of courses each. During the first summer, CPELT participants attend the CONTACT summer institute:
- Peacebuilding I: Conflict Transformation and Global Relations (2 credits)
- Peacebuiling II: Peace and English Language Teaching (1 credit)
- Participant-Led Workshops
- Experiential Learning and Community Building
During the second summer of the program, participants will return to World Learning’s campus during the same three-week period (beginning Memorial Day) for coursework in the Teacher Training Institute. Courses like Mindfulness for Educators and Teaching Teachers to Reflect explore inner elements of peace. Deep Listening: Perspectives and Practice explores inter-personal skills for peace. Introduction to the Way of Council develops techniques for building peace in community.
For more information about these courses and timetable, please see the Teacher Training Institute website.
