Cypriot Youth Camps

Students playing music.

Greek and Turkish Cypriot teens come to SIT for a bicommunal peacebuilding and dialogue program. These programs are designed to give Greek- and Turkish-Cypriot high school students the opportunity to build relationships and trust by breaking down cultural barriers and deeply held misconceptions about each other. Adult trainers from the north and south sides of Cyprus work with SIT faculty to facilitate the intensive bicommunal dialogue process.

The programs include teambuilding & leadership activities, arts workshops, community-service days, university visits, campfires, a ropes course, canoeing & swimming, a trip to Boston, simulations, drumming, and a student-run 'Cypriot Festival' with traditional food, music and dance. There is lots of informal time for hanging out and building strong friendships.

Team-building activity

Students work to design joint projects that they will implement upon their return to Cyprus, and commit to staying in touch via their projects, email and reunions. These programs are inspiring transformative experiences that demonstrate how young people from divided communities can live and work together in peace.
