World Learning Photo Contest
Photo Contest Rules
Categories
An overall first and second prize will be awarded from the total pool of eligible photos. Smaller prizes will also be awarded for each world region (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, domestic). We reserve the Honorable Mention category for exceptional photos that may do not have otherwise been recognized.
We are specifically looking for photos that show students interacting with the local culture/ people in some fashion.
Suggested themes include:
- Local life
- Cultural events
- A transformational World Learning moment
- Landscape & Architecture
All photos entered in the contest should adhere to ethics of cultural sensitivity. If recognizable people are portrayed, the subjects must have given the photographer permission or "informed consent" to have the photograph taken. The spirit of the photo contest should be in keeping with World Learning's mission of promoting cross-cultural exchange and global understanding.
Contest entries are often selected to appear in World Learning’s print and online publications and marketing initiatives.
Entry Rules & Guidelines
- All contestants under 18 years of age at time of entry must submit a signed Parent Consent Form for Minors.
- All photos must be accompanied by a signed Contest Entry Form or a signed parent consent form for minors. We will NOT accept entry forms and photos mailed separately.
- All entries must be original photographs taken by the entrant while on any World Learning program. Photos not taken by the contestant will be disqualified.
- Only prints may be submitted. Digital photos welcome if printed on quality paper. We are unable to accept electronic submission of digital photos at this time.
- All entries must be at least 3"x5" in size.
- All photos must have your name, program, semester/year, and caption on the back.
- Your photos may be black-and-white or color, glossy or matte.
All photos must be accompanied by a signed Contest Entry Form. We will NOT accept entry forms and photos mailed separately.
How We Judge
Each photo is judged on its own merit. Therefore, there may be multiple winning photos from the same photographer. However, only one prize is awarded to each winning contestant. The committee also reserves the right to include all 'first-tier' photos in the Honorable Mention category which is not limited to a certain number. This policy ensures that all 'first-tier' photos are recognized.
Submissions
Up to 5 photographs from your time with a World Learning program (SIT Study Abroad, the Experiment in International Living, or SIT graduate school practicum) may be submitted. Send submissions to:
