Photo Contest Rules

Categories

Grand prizes will be awarded from the total pool of eligible photos.  Prizes will be awarded to the best photo from each region and each program (SIT Study Abroad, the Experiment in International Living, and the SIT Graduate Institute).

We are specifically looking for photos that show students interacting with the local culture/ people in some fashion.

Suggested themes include:

  • Local life
  • Cultural events
  • A transformational World Learning moment
  • Landscape & Architecture

All photos entered in the contest should adhere to ethics of cultural sensitivity.  If recognizable people are portrayed, the subjects must have given the photographer permission or "informed consent" to have the photograph taken. The spirit of the photo contest should be in keeping with World Learning's mission of promoting cross-cultural exchange and global understanding.

Contest entries are often selected to appear in World Learning’s print and online publications and marketing initiatives.

Entry Rules & Guidelines

  • All contestants must be 18 years of age at the time they enter the contest
  • All entries must be original photographs taken by the entrant while on any World Learning program.  Photos not taken by the contestant will be disqualified.
  • Only prints may be submitted. Digital photos welcome if printed on quality paper. We are unable to accept electronic submission of digital photos at this time.
  • All entries must be at least 3"x5" in size.
  • All photos must have your name, program, semester/year, and caption on the back.

How We Judge

Each photo is judged on its own merit.  Therefore, there may be multiple winning photos from the same photographer.  However, only one prize is awarded to each winning contestant.  The committee also reserves the right to include all 'first-tier' photos in the Honorable Mention category which is not limited to a certain number.  This policy ensures that all 'first-tier' photos are recognized.

Submissions

Up to 5 photographs from your time with a World Leaning program (SIT Study Abroad, the Experiment in International Living, or SIT graduate school practicum) may be submitted. Send submissions to:
