The spirit of the photo contest should be in keeping with World Learning's mission of promoting cross-cultural exchange and global understanding.
Keep in mind that all photographs, once submitted, become the property of World Learning to use as seen fit. Contest entries are often selected to appear in World Learning’s print and online publications and marketing initiatives and must agree to following terms and conditions.
By submitting a photo, you will be asked to agree to give World Learning/SIT non-exclusive rights to reproduce your work to be used and reproduced in World Learning/SIT publications, on the Web site, or in any other World Learning/SIT marketing and media projects in all media in perpetuity.

Please note: You must submit a release waiver in order for your photos to be considered.
Photo guidelines:
Uploaded photos must be in JPEG format, for example, with a file name ending in ".jpg" or ".jpeg" or ".jpe" -- without the quotes. Submitted photos must be high-resolution, 300 ppi images with at least 2400 pixels in the longest dimension, but not to exceed 6,000,000 total pixels (for example, 3000 pixels by 2000 pixels). Categories and Prizes:
The Grand prize and 2nd place winners will be chosen by the World Learning community via an online voting process. These "Viewers' Choice" winners will be selected from a smaller subset of about 10 - 15 photos choice by program staff.
We are specifically looking for photos that capture the true essence and the unique qualities of all of World Learning's programs. Because of this, we have chosen the following categories.

- Family: these include host families, homestays and any other photo that captures the family connections established on our programs
- Artistic photos: these include any photo capturing the artistic, creative process of our alumni, including landscapes and portraits
- Excursions: these include the experiential component of site visits and academic and cultural excursions
- Transformative moments: these include photos that capture the "aha" or "gestalt" moments that are so common on our programs
- Historical: Celebrating the 80th Anniversary. These include photos from before 1982.
Entry Rules & Guidelines
- All contestants under 18 years of age at time of entry must submit a signed Parent Consent Form for Minors.
- All photos must be accompanied by a submission/release form or a signed parent consent form for minors.
- All entries must be original photographs taken by the entrant while on any World Learning program. Photos not taken by the contestant will be disqualified.
How We Judge
Each photo is judged on its own merit. Therefore, there may be multiple winning photos from the same photographer. However, only one prize is awarded to each winning contestant. The committee also reserves the right to include all 'first-tier' photos in the Honorable Mention category which is not limited to a certain number. This policy ensures that all 'first-tier' photos are recognized.
