Kumjana Novakova, Academic Director

Kumjana Novakova, born in Strumica, Macedonia, graduated from the University of World and National Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria, in International Relations with a specialization in Balkan countries. She earned her MA in Democracy and Human Rights in South Eastern Europe from the University of Sarajevo and University of Bologna. Currently she is pursuing her preparatory PhD in the Social Research track of Political Science at the Free University in Amsterdam and works as research associate in Political Science at the University of Sheffield, UK. She worked for four years at the Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies (CIPS) of the University of Sarajevo as an academic tutor in Democracy and Human Rights. She organized two Human Rights Film Festivals in Sarajevo. She has taught methodology and writing skills to MA students at the Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies of the University of Sarajevo. She also lectured on post-Dayton institutional arrangements in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the SIT Study Abroad semester program on Gender, Transformation and Civil Society, and the Centre des Etudes Européennes de Strasbourg. Ms. Novakova’s research interests include ethnicity, nationalism, conflict resolution, as well as national and postnational identity formation/transformation and Europeanization.
