Argentina: Social Movements and Human Rights

Program Highlights

Lecture in Argentina

Mass movements, especially human rights movements, have played a central role in the democratization of Latin America. While democratic governments have been able to improve political and civil rights, they have not been able to guarantee access to basic social services. Economic development has excluded many segments of society, resulting in ongoing struggles for justice and equality as workers take on factory bosses, peasants fight to retain their land, and indigenous peoples organize to retain their livelihood and identity. This program provides first-hand experience with different types of grassroots organizations fighting for human rights and social welfare.
