Program Highlights

The area that we know as Zanzibar is actually made up of two islands; Unguja and Pemba. The program is based in Stone Town on Unguja Island. Students will explore the diversity of these islands and its natural resources, challenging themselves to understand the larger questions of conservation practice in this area. Highlights include:

  • Wildlife exposure: swimming with dolphins in Kizimkazi, the Tortoise sanctuary on Changuu Island, Jozani Forest and Red Colobus monkeys, snorkeling at Bawe, Changuu, Misali, and Chole.
  • Lectures and excursions in conjunction with the University of Dar es Salaam and its affiliated Institute of Marine Sciences in Zanzibar
  • Kiswahili language study
  • Travel to Mafia Island Marine Park: Snorkeling and study on Chole Island
  • Excursion to Mainland Game Park
