May joined World Learning as General Counsel in August 1996. He assumed additional responsibilities for corporate board matters as Corporate Secretary in 1997 and was named a Vice President in 1998. Prior to joining World Learning, May was an associate with the law firm of Ropes & Gray in Boston, Massachusetts, where his practice focused on general corporate matters, including venture capital financing, joint ventures and partnerships, intellectual property, and non-profit organizations.

May is actively involved in a number of community and professional organizations. He has served on the Annual Program and Legal Education Committees of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and participates actively in the International NGO General Counsel Forum, an informal group of attorneys including counsel to Save the Children, CARE, Mercy Corps, World Wildlife Federation, and World Vision. He has been a speaker on a variety of topics involving the legal aspects of international education, including operating in multiple jurisdictions and liability issues in overseas educational programs. Locally, May chairs the Putney Town School Board, serves on the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union (WSESU) Board and has served on both the Finance and Contract Negotiations Committees of the WSESU.

He holds a B.A. from Yale and a J.D. from Boston University. A resident of Putney, Vermont, he has two sons and a daughter.
