Dr. Gyula Csurgai, Academic Director
Born in Hungary and a Canadian citizen, Dr. Gyula Csurgai received his BA in Political Science from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada and his diploma in Political Science from the University of Toulouse, France. He has Diplome d'etudes superieurs" in European Studies from the Institute for European Studies, Geneva and in "Nationalism, Cultural Identity and International Relations" from the University of Geneva. He also holds a diploma in French Language and Civilization from the University of Geneva. Dr. Csurgai obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Geneva, completing his thesis on the «Geopolitics of the National Question in Central and South-East Europe.»
He worked as scientific collaborator at the Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI), and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels at schools such the Advanced Institute of Management and Communication in Geneva and the Geneva School of Diplomacy. His articles, studies and books have been published in Belgium, Italy, France, Switzerland, Hungary and Canada. Dr. Csurgai has also organized four international symposiums and directed publications of the proceedings. He participated in several international research projects and provided expertise to a number of international organizations. He has been collaborating with the SIT Study Abroad program in Geneva since 1997 and became Academic Director in January 2002.
Earl Noelte, Academic Director
Earl Noelte, a Swiss citizen, received his MA in International Affairs from George Washington University, and his Doctorat Sciences Politiques, International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Fluent in several languages, he has combined university teaching in International Relations, Humanitarian and Development Studies with research, and fieldwork for Amnesty International and the School as an Instrument for Peace, international NGOs that focus on human rights, conflict resolution and peace education. Dr. Noelte directed a Refugee and Migration Studies Program, published on these subjects, and organized an annual seminar at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, San Remo, Italy. He is an expert in conflict transformation and peace support operations with the Swiss Federal Agency for Development and Cooperation. Dr. Noelte has been Academic Director of the Geneva program since 1998.
