World Learning Launches Weblog, Notes on the World
BRATTLEBORO, VT (March 26, 2008) -- The World Learning NOW (Notes on the World) weblog is a channel for tapping into the people, ideas and stories that make up World Learning’s active global community. Posts by staff, students, alumni and others take readers to places near and far to connect real-time to World Learning’s programs on the ground in 77 countries worldwide. The weblog is an open forum for discussion, welcoming your ideas, thoughts and comments on a wide range of pressing global themes and issues.
To kick off our new blog, John Fox, World Learning's senior director of strategic communications, will be posting from Ecuador and Bolivia beginning March 27. In addition to his role at World Learning, John is an anthropologist and writer who's been published in Smithsonian, Outside, Salon.com and elsewhere and is a contributing commentator on Vermont Public Radio. John will be visiting World Learning's international development project in Ecuador, which is focused on using education to combat exploitive child labor in indigenous communities. Through stories and images, John hopes to give readers an up-close look at World Learning's unique approach to development, what it means to work with communities and partners on the ground, and how our efforts are transforming the lives of children.
In Bolivia, John will visit our SIT Study Abroad "Culture and Development" program, which focuses on the cultural processes, identities, and resources that determine who controls and benefits from development in this Andean nation. Combined, these programs paint a vivid picture of how the learning and "doing" arms of World Learning come together in this critical region of the world.
We invite you to check in, read John's blog entries, view photos/videos, contribute comments, and bookmark the site to return often.
