Abdelhay Moudden, Academic Director

Mr Abdelhay Moudden earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan, and has been Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Mohamed V University in Rabat since 1978.  Academic Director of the SIT Study Abroad Morocco program since 1992, Mr. Moudden founded the Center for Cross Cultural Learning  in 1995 and has served as the Academic Director there since then.   Mr. Moudden is also a member of the Consultative Council on Human Rights and a former member of the Moroccan Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2004-2005).  He has published several articles on Moroccan politics and culture and two novels, the latest of which, The Farwell Sermon, won the Morocco book award for 2004.

Dr. Lahcen Haddad, Academic Director

A native of Morocco, Dr. Lahcen Haddad obtained his BA in English in 1982 from the University of Fes, Morocco.  He received his MA in English from Mohamed V University in 1984 and his Doctorat de Troisième Cycle in 1987, followed by a PhD in Comparative Literature from Indiana University in 1993.  Dr. Haddad has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in communications, English, development studies and management at Indiana, Mohamed V University, Al Akhawayn University, and High Tech, Morocco.  He has also served as chair of the Communication Department at Al Akhawayn University, as director of the MBA Program at High Tech and as coordinator of the Culture and Development Unit of Research at Mohamed V University.

His publications in cultural studies, development studies, politics, and women studies include books as well as articles in English, French, and Arabic.  For the last six years, he has served as consultant in strategic management, education, training, and human resource management with various organizations in Morocco and abroad.  He is also active in civil society organizations in Morocco and abroad. Dr. Haddad is fluent in French, Arabic, and English, reads German and understands Spanish and Berber. He has recently been appointed by the King of Morocco, as member of the National Steering Committee for Human Development. He has been Academic Director of the SIT Morocco program since 2000.
