Explore Traditional and Contemporary Art

Accra, the program’s base, is a cosmopolitan city that boasts edgy, forward-thinking visual and performing art circles.Students explore different locations, including Kumasi and Southern Ghana, and in the process explore contemporary art in addition to learning traditional art forms.

Hands-On Learning

Students on this program do not simply see stunning artwork and meet practitioners – they also practice themselves.Many students have created ISPs that involve alternate media – from recording a hip-hop CD to performing a traditional dance.Students will have opportunities for workshops and practice in addition to lectures and performances.

Religion and the Arts

Ghanaians are a very religious people and signs of their adherence to various faiths are seen in the streets of cities and villages alike. Churches and mosques are found on most street corners and the signs on shops and public transportation are often testament to the owner’s faith. Latest figures indicate that 43% of Ghanaians are Christian, 12% Muslim and 45% are followers of traditional religion.
