Letter from a Parent

We hope that this letter from Kate Daniels gives you a deeper insight into the values we espouse at The Experiment:
Dear Experiment Staff,
Thank you for the experience that the Experiment made possible for our son. We noticed immediately that he had grown more responsible for aspects of his own life. His consciousness was raised in so many ways—from a new awareness of the conditions for Aboriginal Australians to the pace of life in a rural community. I am proud of him for being capable of making sophisticated cultural critiques and keen observations about Australian life and culture.
He has been practicing diligently on his didgeridoo and his interest in other cultures and countries has deepened. He was chosen for Model UN, enrolled in world human geography, and even talks about the possibility of studying abroad or attending college in another country. He has now connected with a part of himself that is identified with what I might call global citizenship.
Perhaps most of all, he was deeply affected by the bonding that occurred in his group. His new friends live completely different lives from his here in Nashville. Getting to know them has helped him develop a more enriched picture of the lives of his generation of fellow Americans.
Getting outside the country during this particular period of American socio-political history was also very good for him. We want to particularly express our appreciation for his group leader. An amazing person!
Finally, we were impressed with your conscientiousness in communicating with us. We are very grateful for the care everyone took of our son! Thank you for the opportunities the Experiment provides for young people to find a source of openness towards others and altruism in themselves.
Yours,
Kate Daniels
