On-Campus Housing

Housing Application Procedures

Applying for On-Campus Housing
After you have paid your enrollment deposit, you will be sent a Housing Agreement form. Complete the Housing Agreement and return it as soon as possible to the Admissions Office along with a nonrefundable $100 housing deposit. Room assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. If you intend to live off campus, please mark the Housing Agreement accordingly and return it to us.

The Housing Agreement
The Housing Agreement is a contract between the student residing on campus and World Learning for the length of the entire academic year. The only exception to the academic-year contract is for MAT students completing a geographically distant internship during January and February; their contracts will be adjusted to reflect their absence. Students enrolled at SIT Graduate Institute who wish to terminate their housing for any other reason are subject to the following policies:

  • After July 1, the housing deposit becomes nonrefundable and nontransferable if the student withdraws, defers to a subsequent term, or decides to live off campus.
  • Students who break the housing contract to move off campus after the first day of orientation will be charged a $450 fee.

Living on Campus

Residence Halls
Residence halls vary in design and capacity, with the largest hall holding up to 50 people. Each building has a lounge space that contains 2 computers, a TV, and a DVD player. Each residence hall also has a kitchenette with a microwave, a toaster oven, a tea kettle, and a sink. Kitchenettes are intended for snack preparation only and are not appropriate for regular meal preparation. All students living on campus must be enrolled in SIT Graduate Institute meal plan.

Because each residence hall is unique in design, room sizes vary. All halls are equipped with shared bath facilities, with separate male and female bathrooms. The Housing Office makes all room assignments. There is a no smoking policy in effect for all campus buildings.

Residents Advisors
Each dormitory has its own Resident Advisor (RA), a staff member who helps facilitate residence life. During the academic year, Resident Advisors are current full-time students. In the summer months, summer MATs are not eligible to be RAs.

Room Assignments
The Housing Office determines who will be assigned to each room. When you arrive on campus for move-in day, you will be given your room assignment. If you have specific needs, inform us of those needs on the housing contract or contact the Housing Office as soon as possible before your arrival to campus. Students with disabilities who would like to request reasonable accommodations are asked to contact Jane Buckingham, Director of Counseling and Disability Support Services, at 802.258.3367.

Room Furnishings
Each student is provided with a single bed, pillow, comforter, desk and chair, desk lamp, trash can, and closet space/bureau. Each room comes with a small refrigerator. All windows are provided with drapes or blinds. Each dorm room is wired with local telephone access and Network connection for personal computer. Each room has a phone but no answering machine.

Computers in Residence Halls
Each residence hall lounge has two general-use computers for Internet access only. Questions and problems can be directed to World Learning’s Educational Technology Department by contacting Sehoon Ahn at 802.258.3513 or techsupport@mail.sit.edu.

Policies for Living On Campus

Quiet Hours
There is a policy of "quiet hours" in effect.

No Smoking Policy
SIT Graduate Institute residence areas are smoke-free environments, and smoking is prohibited in all buildings, including common areas and individual rooms. Smoking is permitted outdoors.

Arrival Day
For fall admissions, arrival day is the Monday prior to orientation week. We do not accept check in after 11 PM. If you can not make it to campus by 11 PM, then you need to make arrangements to spend the night elsewhere and to arrive on campus the next day. For summer MAT programs, see the acceptance packet sent by SIT Graduate Institute Admissions.

Vacating Rooms
For PIM and MAT students, all rooms must be vacated by Saturday at noon following Saturday’s graduation ceremony. For summer MAT students, see the acceptance packet from SIT Graduate Institute Admissions.

Housing for Couples Without Children On Campus
Accommodations can be made for couples without children. Please contact the Housing Office for more details.

Housing for Students with Children on Campus
At this time, there is no housing for students who want to live on campus with their children. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to sleep overnight on campus

Availability of Guest Rooms
You must contact the Housing Office at 802.258.3254 or Joyce Harris at joyce.harris@sit.edu to check on availability and price.

Winter Break
During the December/January holiday break, students may continue to stay on campus, but services will be greatly reduced. There is no meal plan available during this time period – you will be responsible for your own meals during this break. PIM spring break students can remain on campus.

Linen Service and Laundry
Linen service is available for $4 per week. If you choose to provide your own linen, please bring flat sheets only, as our mattresses are too long for fitted sheets. There are two laundries on campusߞone in the International Center and one in a separate building on the north side of campus.

Storage on Campus
There is no long-term storage on campus. Accommodations can be made for the MAT internship period.

Parking
Cars are permitted, but they must be registered on the Housing Agreement. Once cars have been registered, students will receive parking passes that must be displayed on the vehicles when they are parked on campus.

Van Service
During the week and on weekends, there are scheduled van trips into town.

For MAT Students Who Will be Doing a Local Internship and Want to Live on Campus:
MAT students will choose their internships some time during the fall term. As soon as you know that you will need to stay on campus for the internship period, contact the Housing Office. The housing cost for the internship period is an extra expense. Your billing will be automatically adjusted.
