Not Your Average Language Classes

In addition to the excellent grammar and conversation instruction at the Institut Catholique, the SIT program provides diverse methods of French language study, including the following classes:

  • French Tete-a-Tete - individual tutorials for direct feedback and progress
  • Expression au Quotidien -Find out how French people really speak, keep current on slang and colloquialisms, and learn about conversational gestures
  • Atelier d'Expression - Through listening, reading and singing French song lyrics, use creative expression to explore various topics in French culture
Two Tracks to Suit Student Needs

This program includes two tracks – A and B – that allow all language level students to follow seminars and complete field study projects at his or her appropriate level. These tracks combine optimal language learning with a strong emphasis on content. Specific differences between tracks include the following: Track A students will complete more language instruction hours and begin Seminar courses later in the term, while Track B students begin Seminars earlier with fewer language instruction hours. In terms of fieldwork, Track A students’ field work consists of a Field Study Project (FSP) while Track B students complete an Independent Study Project (ISP). For excursions, all students will travel together except for the final excursion where Track A and B follow the same itinerary but at separate times.

Village Homestay

The Village homestay is a highly unique collaboration of SIT with the town of Saintirons, in the remote Ariège area bordering the Pyrénées Mountains. This field-based exercise in learning takes place over 10 days, where each student stays in a different family near St Girons. Besides language acquisition, this study asks students to experience and incorporate understanding of rural life and village life on an independently selected theme.

Explore Different Sides of Toulouse

Students take part in a number of activities designed to introduce neighborhoods and culture of Toulouse that might not otherwise be apparent. Examples include: attend a production of the Toulouse National Theatre, meet with song-writing and poetry slam workshop participants, visit with the Sufi Chorale in suburban Toulouse and attend a religious service there.
