Knowledge of both languages will allow students to gain further insight into the culture and relationship between those who speak Fijian and those who speak Fiji Hindi.

Independent Study Projects:
The Independent Study Project allows students to immerse themselves in research on an aspect of Fiji of most interest to them. Previous ISPs have included projects focused on local marine protected areas, Fijian oral histories and legends, bus transportation routes, surfing tourism, Sunni Muslim women in Fiji, and land value systems.

Students at a Fijian welcomeConnecting with the Community:
The curriculum includes the opportunity for students to visit locally-based non-profit organizations as part of a Community Reciprocity Project. Students will also participate in village ceremonies, attend religious services, cook Indian sweets with Indian settlement families, and perform indigenous dance and Indian songs to local communities.

Experience Suva:
Suva is the capital of Fiji, the country’s political and administrative center and one of the South Pacific's largest cities. Located on the southeastern coast of Viti Levu, Suva and the surrounding area is home to half of Fiji's urban population.  Suva also houses the University of the South Pacific. This multicultural city with many mosques, temples, churches, and cultural centers provides students with opportunities to explore on many levels and to understand better the Fijian peoples.
