Fiji: Multiculturalism and Social Change

Coursework

The interdisciplinary coursework for this program examines history, politics, economics, geography, sociology, and arts and culture, using lectures, excursions, readings, and self-directed projects as key learning tools. Lectures are designed to enhance the students’ knowledge of issues in preparation for the Independent Study Project (ISP) and to complement the students’ own cross-cultural experiences in Fiji. Additional lectures are held throughout the country at field excursion sites that are carefully chosen to complement and reinforce the students’ classwork and readings. Students will integrate their knowledge in field projects, culminating in their ISP work. Fijian and Fijian Hindi language instruction augment student learning, opening a window into two key communities within Fiji.

The following syllabi are either from a recent session of this program or for an upcoming session. Because courses develop and change over time to take advantage of dynamic learning opportunities, actual course content will vary from term to term.

The syllabi can be useful for students, faculty, and study abroad offices in assessing credit transfer. Read more about credit transfer.
