Credit Transfer Overview

SIT is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization. All SIT Study Abroad transcripts are distributed by SIT’s Registrar, based on this accreditation.

Ensuring Credit Transfer

During the application process students indicate where to send their official SIT transcript. This is most often the study abroad office, but advisors can check this on the student's Approval of Participation form, a required form for all semester programs. This form also helps SIT, the home school and the student understand how much credit will transfer and in what way. Please note that transfer of summer program credit is solely the responsibility of the student. SIT does not require the Approval of Participation form for summer programs.

Grade Reports and Transcripts

Students receive a grade report after the conclusion of the program, although they may request a transcript if needed. Included with both the transcript and the grade report is a narrative evaluation of the Independent Study Project (where applicable), completed by the SIT Academic Director, which details the project, methodology, results and analysis of the student's work.

Transcripts and grade reports are generally sent out by the SIT Registrar's office within 60 days of the completion of the program. Students who are graduating or have another pressing need for the transcript should contact SIT and alert their Academic Director prior to leaving the program.  Transcripts are dependent on the timely submission of grades and narrative by the Academic Director.

If a transcript is lost in the mail please let your University Relations Manager know and a replacement will be issued to the official designated by the student on the Approval of Participation form. In all other cases, the student must request the transcript.  Instructions can be found on the SIT Registrar's webpage.
