Diversity at World Learning

As a reflection of its mission, World Learning places great value on the diversity of its staff, faculty and program participants. The organization is committed to maintaining a working and learning environment in a community comprised of people of many backgrounds and which maximizes the potential of each individual. As a program unit of World Learning, SIT Graduate Institute is dedicated to helping realize the diversity vision of the organization.

Diversity, as World Learning defines it, refers to the range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences as reflected in characteristics such as age, class, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, physical and learning ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, and status as a veteran of the armed forces. Other dimensions of diversity include, but are not limited to, education, marital status, employment, and geographical background, as well as cultural values, beliefs, and practices.

SIT develops and refines initiatives on an ongoing basis to encourage and support individuals as they explore, understand, and utilize the many facets of diversity and interconnectedness. It is our expectation that to the extent that the SIT community is enriched by diversity, we will in turn make a positive impact on individuals and communities throughout the world.

Students, faculty, and staff can participate in such campus diversity committees and groups as Connections (Diversity Action Coalition), International Students of Academic Programs, GLoBE (Gays, Lesbians or Bisexuals Everywhere), the Interfaith Council, and the Alliance for Women and Gender Relations. The Department of Student Services provides additional support and resources. The expectation is that members of the SIT community will be enriched by diversity and will, in turn, make a positive impact on individuals and communities throughout the world.
