SIT Graduate Institute Congratulates Class of 2010

WL President Adam Weinberg and speaker Robert Rosenfeld

BRATTLEBORO (June 1, 2010) -- The SIT Graduate Institute, a program of World Learning, proudly congratulates its 2010 graduating class and looks forward to the positive contributions that these exceptional individuals will make in their communities and our world.

Provost Lynne Rosansky, Dean David Shallenberger and Associate Dean Barbara Carver presented the graduates with their diplomas at a ceremony held May 29 on World Learning's Brattleboro campus. The 2010 class consists of more than 200 graduates who received master's degrees in programs ranging from conflict transformation and sustainable development to international education and teaching.

The commencement address was delivered by Robert Rosenfeld, an SIT Graduate Institute alum and founding director of the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council, a grassroots organization of 70 tribes and First Nations in Alaska and Canada. Rosenfeld began his speech remembering the death of a close friend, an event that led to his decision to study at SIT. He asked graduates to remember why they chose to study in their fields and he urged them to make a long-term commitment to living in the communities in which they work.

Following his remarks, Rosenfeld received the World Learning Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from President and CEO Adam Weinberg. The award recognized Rosenfeld's "outstanding service and dedication to bridging cultures and transforming lives," including his role in uniting tribal and nontribal cultures to protect and preserve the Yukon River and his current work as an independent consultant to indigenous governments.
