World Learning Honors Trustee Robert J. Schweich for Scholarship, Service

WASHINGTON, DC (May 20, 2010) -- World Learning is deeply honored to award the World Learning Citation to Board of Trustees member Robert J. Schweich. The New York resident was instrumental in developing the Outbound Ambassador Scholarship that has sent hundreds of New York-area high school students abroad on The Experiment in International Living.
"Bob's commitment to engaging dynamic and deserving students from across the five boroughs of New York in Experiment programs has changed the lives of generations of youth and host families," said Tony Allen, director of the Experiment.
World Learning Board Chair Emeritus Stephen Lowey presented the citation to Schweich May 7 at a gala dinner held at the Harvard Club of New York. Numerous Experiment alumni and members of the Schweich family, including his wife Monique, paid tribute to his more than four decades of service to the organization. The evening included poignant speeches from three former Experimenters—Eduardo Seda, Tené A. Howard and José M. de Jesus—all New York-area residents who were recipients of the Outbound Ambassador Scholarship.
Schweich was an Experimenter to the Netherlands in 1953 and to Denmark in 1955. His two children were Experimenters to Mexico and his three grandchildren to France, Argentina, and Spain.
"Like so many others, Bob was greatly moved by his time on the Experiment,” said Adam Weinberg, president and CEO of World Learning. “His steadfast commitment to the program has unlocked the potential of hundreds of young people and inspired them to create a better world."
The World Learning Citation—formerly known as The Experiment Citation—is awarded by the Board of Trustees to individuals who “model the challenges, joys, and responsibilities of global citizen¬ship and community through their own international and cross culture experiences.”
