New Office to Strengthen Nicaraguan Grassroots Organizations
WASHINGTON, DC (May 18, 2010) -- World Learning will train an estimated 500 grassroots leaders in Nicaragua over the next year as part of a new $4 million dollar project. The Capacity Development and Training Project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
"I am excited to open World Learning's new office in Nicaragua at this important stage in the country's development,” said World Learning project director Kevin Carew. “The potential of Nicaragua is great, now more than ever."
Nicaragua's efforts to recover from years of civil unrest include a growing sector of nongovernmental and civil society organizations that work to foster democratic reform and greater grassroots participation. World Learning will prepare these local institutions and their staff members to play a more active and effective role in Nicaraguan society by offering skills training and capacity building interventions to improve all areas of leadership and management.
World Learning has worked in nearly 50 countries with thousands of institutions, ranging from universities and private organizations to minority institutions, business, and professional associations. Carew comes to Nicaragua from the Caucasus region, where he has designed and implemented capacity development programs since 2002.
