World Learning Community Urged to Respond to Haiti Earthquake
WASHINGTON, DC (January 15, 2010) -- World Learning would like to express our sincere condolences to the people of Haiti and the families of international citizens killed in Tuesday's devastating earthquake. In particular, World Learning is focused on eight Haitian students who are on one of our exchange programs to the United States.
Only one of the students was in Haiti when the 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the capital, Port-au-Prince. World Learning has since confirmed that he is safe. World Learning is assisting with arrangements to bring together the remaining Haitian students in the United States next week in coordination with the program funder, the U.S. Department of State.
World Learning urges individuals who wish to respond to the crisis to do so through our partners in InterAction, the largest coalition of U.S.-based, international nongovernmental organizations that focus on the world's poor and most vulnerable people. InterAction's website includes guidelines on the most appropriate ways to help, as well as updated links to dozens of humanitarian organizations engaged in the emergency relief effort.
