World Learning's Visitor Exchange Program (VEP) offers comprehensive international education, exchange, and training services to US and foreign clients.
VEP's purpose is to encourage understanding and cooperation between the people of the United States and peoples of other countries. VEP works toward the fulfillment of this purpose by providing professional programs and logistical support services to public and private organizations engaged in international cooperative and business-related exchange projects. VEP designs, administers, and supports education and training programs for groups and individuals coming from other countries to the United States. It undertakes these activities under contract with government agencies and for private organizations.
World Learning Visitor Exchange Program Internship
Individuals with a career interest in international affairs are recruited year-round for internship positions. Interns are compensated at the prevailing minimum wage rate for Washington, DC, and some interns receive academic credit for their internships. Interns are assigned on a rotational basis to programming teams to develop, implement, and monitor international exchange programs.
An intern will assist with the administration, implementation, and/or monitoring of educational study and professional training programs for international trainees and participants. The internship may include some or all of the following responsibilities:
- conduct research to identify appropriate, cost-effective program components and assist in the preparation of programs;
- assist in the preparation of preliminary programs including, where applicable, training and travel costs; arrange programming professional appointments; develop prospective program calendars and itineraries; disseminate program information to sponsoring agency/client;
- arrange program logistics (air and ground travel/hotels/meeting space), and coordinate with contracted travel providers;
- assist in conducting project briefings with visitors and trainees on program arrangements and provide guidance on understanding cultural differences and expectations to be encountered; accompany visitors, as required, to plenary sessions; act as liaison between participants and host or training organizations;
- establish and maintain contact with local sponsors; coordinate with local sponsors to formulate and secure their programs outside of Washington, DC;
- assist in interpreter/English language officer briefing and debriefing sessions;
- prepare and/or assemble briefing books and program materials for participants; prepare participant biographical information; update participant lists and biographies; write thank you notes to hosts, local sponsors, and/or training organizations at end of program;
- prepare and maintain program files; gather, enter, and edit data for database; and
- handle other assigned tasks as needed and requested by team leaders or the intern coordinators.
Intern candidates must have had prior professional experience, preferably within an international education or exchange environment. International travel/work experience and foreign language skills a plus. Undergraduate degree in international affairs or related subject required, graduate degree and/or graduate coursework preferred. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have exceptional organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
Target start date: open year-round.
Compensation: $8.25/hour
Part time schedules or flexible volunteer hours may also be available.
Duration: 3 months with the possibility of an extension.
