WASHINGTON, DC (September 28, 2009) -- World Learning is pleased to co-host the Orientation session on Friday, October 2nd at the Civil Society Policy Forum held in connection with the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Istanbul, Turkey. Mr. Jan Karpowicz, World Learning Chief of Party for Cyprus, will be representing World Learning as the chair of the Orientation session. As chair, Karpowicz will welcome participants to the session and discuss World Learning's work and on-going relationship with the World Bank.
The Orientation session will focus on the WB and IMF origins, organizational structure, major policies, and operational work. Invited participants will be able to learn more about the WB, its relationships with civil society organizations, and its on-going effort to ensure a greater level of communication and coordination with these organizations. World Learning is proud to be involved in this session since it aims to bridge the dialogue between the WB and civil society organizations around the world.
In addition to Karpowicz, the Orientation Session will include the following speakers: Edith Grace Ssempala (Special Advisor, WB), Vasuki Shastry (Public Affairs Chief, IMF), John Garrison (Civil Society Specialist, WB), Aaron Rosenberg (Chief Public Affairs, IFC), and Jeremey Mark (Public Affairs Deputy Chief, IMF).
The Civil Society Policy Forum will bring together WB and IMF staff, representatives from civil society organizations, government officials, academics, and others who will exchange views on topics ranging from the global economic crisis and climate change, to governance reform. In addition to chairing the Orientation session at The Civil Society Policy Forum, Karpowicz will represent World Learning at a CEO's breakfast with World Bank President Robert B. Zoellick, and a Townhall Meeting with Mr. Zoellick and IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
World Learning will continue its on-going relationship with the World Bank's Civil Society Team by offering at least three (3) targeted training sessions for WB staff throughout the year. The training sessions, held in Washington, DC, will focus on civil society engagement and participation in WB orientation sessions. This valuable relationship continues to underscore the respect that World Learning has earned over the years in the civil society sector.
