World Learning/SIT is proud to host the 3rd Annual Fostering Global Citizenship in Higher Education Conference

BRATTLEBORO, VT (September 14, 2009) -- World Learning/SIT announces the 3rd Annual Fostering Global Citizenship in Higher Education conference being held on the Brattleboro, VT campus on Oct. 5 - 6, 2009. Join faculty, staff, administrators and students from higher education institutions to discuss and explore concepts and outcomes of global citizenship; share local and global best practice program models and institutional strategies; and seek new avenues for cross-campus collaboration. This is an event that brings people from campuses all over the U.S.; it is a unique opportunity to interact with others around the nation who are doing similar work and thinking about how to educate for global citizenship.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Scott Beale's keynote address will examine the Millennial Generation world view and what global citizenship means among young people in the U.S. and abroad. Scott Beale is founder and chief executive officer of Atlas Service Corps, a "global peace corps," whose mission is to address critical global social issues, by developing leaders, strengthening organizations and promoting innovation through an international exchange of skilled nonprofit professionals. For ten years Scott was a recognized leader of the Millennial Generation as the author of "Millennial Manifesto: A Youth Activist Handbook" and the founder of Millennial Politics.com. After the 2004 Election, the Youth Vote Coalition named him one of "30 People Under 30 Changing Politics in America."
  • 3 concurrent rounds of workshops and roundtables on topics from intercultural competence, to assessment of global learning outcomes, to new and exciting program models, to discussions on how to engage campus leaders and how to foster global citizenship in fiscally difficult times.
  • 4 institutes on the following topics: incorporating the concepts and practices of sustainability into the curriculum as a way to address the challenges of myriad global issues; using technology to provide access to intercultural experiences for all students; designing experiential courses and programs that incorporate critical reflection on global citizenship; and supporting all re-entry dimensions of students after transformative study abroad experiences.

The conference begins on Monday, Oct. 5th with a full day conference including a keynote address and 3 sessions of concurrent workshops. The 2nd day of the conference includes full day institutes that dive deeper into topics relevant to fostering global citizenship
