Policy Advocacy Seminar
World Learning's SIT Graduate Institute will offer a section of its Master's level 3-credit Policy Advocacy course in an intensive workshop and seminar format in Washington DC from January 9-29, 2010. Fieldwork assignments will involve visits to international development organizations and government institutions in the area. The course modules are designed to foster individual and group learning on Deliberative Democracy, Public Policy Making, Citizen Advocacy, Governance Structures and Reforms, Social Justice and Civil Society/Community Network Mobilization. Participants will learn about global, national, and grassroots advocacy campaigns to promote effective policy-making and participatory global, national and local governance. Every course session will provide an opportunity to discuss economic, political, cultural and institutional aspects of governance and prevalent policy advocacy issues and approaches in various countries. The course learning will combine academic and operational analyses, policy advocacy and program strategies, research tools, case studies, and participation in "live" advocacy campaigns.
The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) Program
The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for undergraduate, non-degree study in the United States. The students live in university dormitories and are actively involved in campus organizations and activities. During their programs, they participate in community service and internship activities in order to gain a better understanding of U.S. society and values. The program is open to all academic fields of study and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national and ethnic origin, or disability. Competition for the program is merit based. Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership potential, and their preparedness for study in the United States.
In order to be eligible for the Global UGRAD Program, applicants must:
- Be citizens of the participating countries: Burma, Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Panama, Philippines, Thailand, Uruguay, Venezuela, or Vietnam;
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate in good standing and not be entering the final year of their studies at the time of application.

International Diploma in Language Teaching Management (IDLTM)
Teaching Teachers to Manage
Globally, the field of language teaching has been expanding rapidly, and the demand for language teachers and for managers of language teaching centers and organizations has also grown. Managers are often recruited from among an organization's outstanding employees, which includes teachers. While these teacher-managers are often excellent teachers, they may not be successful or well-prepared managers. The International Diploma in Language Teaching Management (IDLTM) addresses the need for teachers and new managers alike to learn the skills they need to bridge the gap from classroom to business management. The training course, offered in a blended face-to-face and online format, was jointly designed by the School for International Training (USA), the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (UK), and the University of Queensland (Australia), making it a truly portable, globally recognized qualification.
