World Learning's basic mission is to enhance the capacity of individuals, institutions, and communities to create a more peaceful and just world. Capacity building and training is a core approach throughout our programs – from helping government ministries to improve their management practices, NGOs to more effectively advocate for policy change, villages to better support children affected by HIV/AIDS, teachers to incorporate innovative techniques into their classrooms, or in any number of other ways.
World Learning uses a comprehensive performance management approach which includes:
- systematically researching current capacity;
- collaboratively setting objectives with key stakeholders;
- identifying organizational, cultural and other significant challenges;
- and implementing strategic, measurable training or capacity-building interventions.
To do so World Learning draws upon Human and Institutional Capacity Development (HICD) practices to address the complete performance environment of an organization and its performers. World Learning also draws upon tools honed through decades of implementing capacity development projects, such as its Participatory Institutional Analysis Instrument (PIAI).
World Learning trainings are results focused and with measurable outcomes related to specific objectives. Training is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of individuals and may range from short-term targeted workshops to multi-year academic programs. For some courses World Learning offers academic accreditation through its SIT Graduate Institute. To ensure consistency and high quality, World Learning trainers for these courses complete a rigorous certification process.
